Assumptions
- Federal holidays for 2026 through 2035, on the observed date. No state, county or company holidays, and no Inauguration Day, which applies only to the Washington, DC area.
- Saturday and Sunday are weekends. 5 U.S.C. 6103(b) sets a different in-lieu-of day for employees whose regular non-workday is not Saturday.
- Days closed by a one-off executive order, such as a national day of mourning, cannot be predicted and are not included.
- The start date itself is not counted when adding business days.
How it is calculated
- Business days = days in the range whose weekday is Monday–Friday and that are not in the holiday list. Untick "include both" to leave out the end date.
- N business days from a date: step one day at a time from the day after the start, counting only business days, until N are counted.
- Holiday dates come from the statute: fixed dates for five of them, and wording such as "the third Monday in January" for the rest, then moved off a weekend to the observed day. No network lookup is made.

Common mistakes
- "Days" in statutes usually means calendar days. Use this tool only when the contract or policy says "business days" or "working days".
- Carriers differ. UPS and FedEx Ground count Monday–Friday; USPS delivers on Saturday. Check the carrier\'s own definition for delivery estimates.
- Court deadlines follow the Federal Rules or state rules, which have their own holiday lists and "next day" rules. Do not rely on this tool for filing deadlines.
FAQ
Which holidays are excluded?
The eleven federal holidays of 5 U.S.C. 6103(a), on the date offices actually close. A holiday falling on a Saturday is observed the preceding Friday under 6103(b), and one falling on a Sunday the following Monday under Executive Order 11582. State holidays, bank holidays such as Good Friday, and company days off are not included.
Are banks and the stock market closed on the same days?
Mostly, but not exactly. Federal Reserve bank holidays match the federal list except that banks stay open on Columbus Day in some regions and are open when a holiday falls on Saturday. NYSE closes on Good Friday, which is not a federal holiday. Check the specific calendar for banking or trading deadlines.
Does "N business days from a date" count the start date?
No. Counting starts the next day. Friday + 1 business day = the following Monday (unless it is a holiday). Contract language like "within 3 business days" normally works this way.
What about dates in other years?
Every year from 2026 to 2035 is covered. The dates are not copied from a published list: the statute fixes them entirely, so they are computed the same way for each year. The results were checked against the schedules OPM publishes for 2026 and 2027 and match on all twenty-two dates.
Is anything saved or sent?
No. The holiday dates are computed when the page is built and the calculation runs in your browser. Nothing is transmitted.
